GENRE · Roguelike
What is a roguelike?
A roguelike is a game built on runs: each attempt starts from the beginning, the levels are generated anew, and death ends the run for good. What the player keeps is knowledge. Slay the Spire, Balatro and The Binding of Isaac are roguelikes.
Steam uses Roguelike and Roguelite almost as synonyms. The difference is what a run leaves behind: in Balatro and Noita, only what the player learned; in Dead Cells, upgrades bought between runs.
