What is a strategy game?

A strategy game is won by planning: choosing where to build, when to attack and how to spend limited resources, turn by turn or in real time. Northgard, Into the Breach and FTL: Faster Than Light are strategy games.

Strategy is decisions under a clock: Northgard winters, Dwarf Fortress moods, Among Us meetings. Those three share no loop; they share a sitting where the next move is a decision rather than a reflex.
