SURVIVAL · N=100 · GENRE CORPUS

Survival is a genre mix, not a launch outcome.

These hundred games are not a third cohort of “failed vs succeeded”. Hits above a million reviews sit next to titles under a thousand.

Extraction

Seed includes Valheim, Palworld, Rust, The Forest, Green Hell, The Long Dark, ICARUS, Enshrouded, Nightingale, Grounded — plus ninety further titles from hits to small. Reviews median 1313; 65/100 at ≥1,000 reviews.

FINDINGS

Families already in the corpus — nothing invented for the page.

The page is usually loaded. That is not the job.

89/100 have ≥8 screenshots (median 14). 66/100 support ≥5 languages; 23/100 still ship in one. 100/100 have a long description. 97/100 have a trailer. Checking eight shots is not the survival brief.

Early Access and update cadence are the genre posture.

31/100 are still in Early Access. An EA date is filled for 37/100. Updates: 98/100. DLC: 60/100. The pattern is workshop plus cadence, not a frozen 1.0. Valheim launched with five people, no achievements, no demo, in EA.

Valheim — five people, no achievements, still EA

Achievements are optional even at hit scale.

80/100 have achievements. Valheim does not, at 540,159 reviews in this snapshot. Treat achievements as a page check, not a survival law.

Dead Cells — EA as audience workshop

Wishlists are almost entirely unobserved.

1 declaration in 100 rows: Green Hell (ESPI, listed company) reported more than 413,000 wishlists before 1.0. We do not estimate the other ninety-nine. Tracking has to use proxies — reviews, CCU, news — or a figure the studio actually shares.

Green Hell — the only public wishlist stock

Next Fest, current-store demo and creator columns are too dirty to rate.

Next Fest: 3 yes / 7 no / 90 unobserved. Demo still listed: 7/100. Creators 8 yes / 92 unobserved. Those “yes” cells are seed reading, not a corpus rate.

Reception is not forgiven by the genre.

Median review score 83%. 32/100 sit under 70%. Nightingale is Mixed in the seed despite a large team and a long description. Survival does not wash out a broken promise.

The weekday pattern looks like the high-review launch sample, not a survival exception.

Tuesday 24, Thursday 24, Monday 21. Weekend 3/100. Tue+Wed+Thu 61/100.

Release-day guide

IF YOU ARE BUILDING A SURVIVAL GAME

Sell the workshop, the cadence, and the right creator niche.

What we can stand behind: Early Access as an audience workshop, an update calendar visible on the page, and creator matching by subgenre — OWSC co-op, extraction sessions, solo hardcore, PvP sandbox — not a generic “survival let’s play” at 200k.

What we cannot deliver as a number: Valve’s wishlist stock. The launch-outcomes study is a different corpus; do not average the two.

NEXT

A diagnostic still starts with your page.

Genre matching comes after the store-page checks hold. Nightingale is the reminder that budget does not replace reception.
