What is an RPG?

A role-playing game (RPG) lets the player grow a character or a party: levels, skills, gear and choices that change how the next fight goes. On Steam the tag covers turn-based party games, action RPGs and games that borrow RPG progression, from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Hades.

Cassette Beasts is a collector. Hades is an action roguelike with RPG conversations. Stardew Valley is a farm that borrowed RPG dungeons. The tag covers all three, so this page separates them by how they play.
