SHYPIARD
OBSERVATORY · CALENDAR CLUSTER

Release day matters more than you think.

In the Shypiard observatory, Saturday releases fail at 90.6% across the full cohort, versus 76% on Thursday. Correlation, not causal proof — but clear enough to change a decision that costs nothing to adjust: the day of the week.

01 — WHY THE WEEKEND IS A TRAP

Nobody's watching the launch.

A launch generates its attention peak in the first 48 to 72 hours — bugs to fix fast, reviews to watch, creators to re-engage if coverage starts slow. Releasing on a Friday or Saturday puts that critical peak right in the middle of the weekend, when community managers, specialized press, and often the team itself are least available to react.

Creators who cover releases also follow a weekly rhythm: many publish their release-day videos Tuesday through Thursday, not on weekends. Releasing on a Saturday often means missing the window where those videos would have the most impact on your first week.

02 — THE BEST DAY ACCORDING TO THE DATA

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday — within that window.

Thursday is the most favorable day observed across the full cohort. The Tuesday-Thursday window also leaves a margin to react before the weekend if a technical problem shows up at launch — unlike a Friday release, which leaves you two days without an available team before you can respond.

03 — SCHEDULE AROUND STEAM SALES, NOT AGAINST

The sales calendar is public — use it.

Steam's major seasonal sales calendar is known months in advance. Releasing right before a major sale dilutes your launch visibility in discount noise; releasing with no promotion planned for several months deprives your first velocity peak of a second spotlight. The most favorable window is generally four to eight weeks before a sale period, enough time to build a review base before the discount attracts a new audience.

04 — CHECK YOUR IMMEDIATE NEIGHBORHOOD

A good day can still be a bad choice on a specific date.

Even a Thursday can be a bad day if a major release in your genre is scheduled the same week. Before locking a firm date, check Steam's upcoming releases (the "coming soon" page filtered by your genre and tags) for a direct conflict, and shift by a few days if needed — day of the week and absence of direct competition matter together, not one without the other.

05 — WHAT THE CALENDAR DOESN'T MAKE UP FOR

Release day is the cheapest adjustment of all — but it's a marginal setting, not a launch plan. It doesn't make up for a positioning problem or a lack of creator coverage. The free diagnostic folds calendar timing into a full plan, not as an isolated variable.
