What genres sell best on Steam?
Steam does not publish sales. Reviews are the public trace of a game finding players. This page ranks genres by how often their games reach 1,000 reviews. We do not convert reviews into sales estimates.
How is a genre counted?
A genre here is a Steam tag among the five tags players voted most on a game. A game is counted when it has been out for at least six months. A genre is ranked only once 30 games have been counted. Tags such as 2D, Singleplayer, and Deckbuilding stay out: 2D and Singleplayer describe the form of the game, and Deckbuilding is a mechanic.
Why 1,000 reviews? It is a common marker of a game that found a wide audience, used for example by How To Market A Game in its yearly counts. Steam itself does nothing special when a game reaches it.
